Meningitis

As you may be aware, there has been a recent outbreak of Meningitis B in Kent, and we understand that this may be causing concern.

Public health teams are managing the situation.

At this time, there has been no change to national guidance for GP practices: we are not able to offer meningitis B vaccinations on demand.

If you are calling for general advice about meningitis or vaccines, please visit nhs.uk for the most up‑to‑date guidance (Meningitis - NHS).

Patients can call 0344 225 3861 Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm if they have no symptoms but are concerned that they have been in contact with a confirmed case or have a general enquiry.

Symptoms to look out for:

  • A rash that does not fade under pressure
  • Sudden high fever
  • Severe headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Vomiting or diarrhoea
  • Cold hands/feet
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Confusion, extreme sleepiness, or seizures

These symptoms have been highlighted by UKHSA as key warning signs requiring immediate action.

If you, or someone you are with, has symptoms of serious illness, please seek urgent medical attention.

Call 999 for an ambulance or go to your nearest A&E immediately if you think you or someone you look after could have meningitis or sepsis.

Call NHS 111 for advice if you’re not sure if it’s anything serious.

Mounjaro update

Mounjaro is being introduced gradually across the NHS and is currently only available to a small number of patients who meet strict clinical criteria following a clinical assessment. There’s no need to contact the practice - if you are eligible, your GP practice or the NHS will contact you directly.

Reception (or PALS) staff are not able to offer assessments or provide further information about eligibility, so please wait to be contacted if this treatment is appropriate for you.

We understand that it may feel frustrating or disappointing if you're not eligible for Mounjaro at this time - even if you’ve been hoping for this kind of support. Please know that other help is available, and we are committed to offering compassionate, personalised care to everyone who needs it.
